Ken Sasaki was born in 1976, and currently works at Hammer Head Studio, Yokohama. A graduate of the MFA program of Tokyo University of the Arts (2002), Sasaki started learning manner, Sasaki is into the theme and the motifs that no one really pays attentions to. He picks them up, stares at them, and depicts them with repeated brushworks, with extreme concentration. As a result, on his canvases, things present themselves in a more realistic way than they really are. It is said that recently, while doing Karaoke, people are most moved when they listen to themselves singing. That is the reality in Tokyo and Japan now, which Sasaki tries to portray in a similar way to a photographer compelled to capture some phenomenon before it dies out. In doing so, he uses Youga, which is gradually losing its function, as the artistic structure. The installation also includes display stands made with old furniture commonly used in standard homes in early Showa era. With books and documents related to the exhibition on display, the stands are considered as extended frames of the paintings. Throughout the show, related talks and events will be held in this space.
