Impurity / Immunity

‘Impurity / Immunity’, which has been selected for ‘OPEN SITE 2017–2018’ is a project to face our contemporaneity in the form of an ex­hi­bi­tion. Par­tic­i­pat­ing artists are Shun Owada, Ken Sasaki, Yusuke Taninaka, Hirofumi Nakamoto, Takeshi Hyakutou and Eriko Mukai. This ex­hi­bi­tion will tour to Okinawa after the pre­miere at Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo.

To search for the ways to ‘co-exist’ in the con­tem­po­rary society where com­plex­i­ty and confusion are seem­ing­ly growing greater, this ex­hi­bi­tion intro­duces two concepts; ‘impurity’ and ‘immunity’. Vividly de­scrib­ing a civ­i­li­sa­tion where attempts of protecting the uniqueness and purity of own ironically results in ex­tinc­tion of their com­mu­ni­ty, Roberto Esposito uses the concept to ‘immunity’. Such at­ti­tude seen in the ‘9.11’ or in Nazism, for example, can be ex­plained as a thorough ‘auto­immunization’. Anything can conflict with a cer­tain immune system as an ‘impurity,’ rather, ‘coexistence’ is a con­tin­u­ous active tension between impurities and immunities.

‘Impurity / Immunity’ is a project that confronts the era, together with a faith to be an ‘impurity’.

About 60 pieces of art by young promising artists have been chosen from the ART FAIR TOKYO 2017 participating galleries to be exhibited and sold at the Lobby Gallery, where entry is free. The “Pocketful” of the title refers to a sense of connecting to another world with a secret sense of hope, as well as the comparatively accessible prices of the works. The works in the exhibit are all chosen by experts and will be sold at prices ranging from around 100,000 yen up to a maximum of 300,000 yen. Bring art and hope to everyday life. This will convey the pleasure of living with art.

Hikarie Contemporary Art Eye  vol.1

This is the first exhibition in the series Contemporary Art Eye. The exhibitions will be organized by galleries and art-world figures from within the Japanese art world; this responsible for introducing a new way of looking at art within Japan.
The exhibitions will introduce not only contemporary art but also modern, craft and antiquities. The aims of these exhibitions is to offer viewers a fresh perspective on culture. The first exhibition features a collaboration between two galleries and an artist run space, each of whom regularly introduces the work of emerging artists within in an international setting. Please enjoy this exhibition.

I’m sorry please talk more slowly

“I’m sorry please talk more slowly” is a group exhibition curated by XYZ Collective together with the cooperation of the galleries MISAKO & ROSEN and AOYAMA | MEGURO. The exhibition title was chosen because it suggests an absurd sense of humor shared by all of the participants (the gallerists and the artists) in the exhibition. When a person is having a conversation together with someone in a language that they only understand partially, it is often necessary for that person to request that their fellow speaker slow down their speaking so that their words and the meaning of their words becomes more clear. This situation is absurd because there is a partial understanding of the language being used to have a conversation. The person who requests that the other person “slow down” understands enough of the other person’s language to communicate a need for slower speech. This situation of partial communication is very similar to the situation that visitors to an art exhibition may have when trying to understand the art.
In the situation of a group exhibition, you may even imagine that the artworks by different artists in the show are also having a conversation with each other and that these artworks also may ask each other to “slow down”. All of the artists included in this exhibition make work which is at once familiar and easy to understand (sculpture, drawing, video) but which may be speaking very quickly…We hope that the situation that the exhibition presents is both enjoyable and challenging.

イタヅクシ It a Zoo Kushi 私は「選ぶ」ということを、創造的活動の根源的なものだと自覚し制作をしています。次々に立ち上がる膨大な可能性の中からひとつを選ぶということは当たり前であり、同時にとても大変なことでもあります。今回は同じ作り手として興味(絵肌・抽象・写実)があり、注目している作家たちに展示をお願いしました。自分には到底出来ないことや、思わず真似をしたくなる考え方や制作のあれこれ、など今の私に無いものを秘めた作り手たちです。また、彼らはメディアを自覚的に選び出しているように思えます。油絵を学んだから、と惰性で制作するのではなく、いたずらに懐疑的なだけでもなく、地に足を着け自分から発信しようという覚悟のうえで制作しているようにみえます。そして共通していることは、それぞれが大切にしていることが画面に、表面にあらわれているということです。 今回新たな試みとして、イタヅ・リトグラフィックご協力のもと、池奈千江・井上実・佐々木健・髙木大地・田口美穂・横山奈美の6名が扱ったことのないメディアであるリトグラフを制作します。彼らの研ぎ澄まされたメディアに対する反応がどういった作品を生み出すのか楽しみです。[企画:佐藤克久(美術家)]

Ken Sasaki : One Night Painting Show

誰もわからないかもしれないけれど、ここblanClassをはじめて訪れた時、強い感慨がありました。僕の身体の寿命より、多少は長持ちするかもしれない描画材でその場を写実し、記録します。描くことによって、残るものと残らないものをまるごと見届ける、一晩だけの絵画展です。
