From September 11 – November 23 MOTI presents two expositions around BredaPhoto. With the theme Songs From the Heart, BredaPhoto dives into the New Romance: the Romance of the 21st century. Even though the romantic ideals of authenticity, sincerity and uniqueness are already two centuries old, are they nowadays alive again. During the festival selected photographers explore the fields around the Romance movement as a form of art, as a lifestyle and even as a term of abuse.
The iconic painting Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer from Casper David Friedrich forms the base for the exhibition Songs from the Heart in MOTI, during BredaPhoto. With several contemporary ‘clones’ of the work of Friedrich, the impact of this on various disciplines is clear. From games and film posters to advertisements, book covers and art: all expressions pay attention to the same feelings of loneliness and mystery.
